Moor Park Governor enrolled as Honorary Burgess

Back in September 2012 one of Moor Park's Governors, Mr Member, had the great honour of being enrolled as an Honorary Burgess of the Preston Guild Merchant.

This distinction dates back to 1179 when King Henry II produced a charter permitting Preston to establish a Guild Merchant. Anybody who wanted to trade in the town had to be a member of this newly formed commercial body.

Today, membership of the Guild Merchant is strictly honorary and is passed down through family generations once every twenty years.

The ceremony, during which new members are admitted, takes place at a Guild Court gathering at Preston's Guild Hall.
The day was a very proud one for Mr Member and our congratulations go to him.
