Fourteen Able and Talented musicians from Key Stage 3 were treated to a story telling extravaganza as they went to watch the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra performing a selection of film and programmatic music.
The pupils had worked through a story telling scheme during their lunchtimes to prepare for the orchestral concert. The pupils have studied pieces which tell various stories including 'The Young Prince and the Young Princess' from Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov to 'Beauty and the Beast' from the Mother Goose Suite by Ravel. Pupils also had the opportunity to take part, singing 'Whatever I Do' a Lin Marsh piece specially commissioned for the event.
The highlight for most was seeing the live performance of the 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' theme tune, music from the 'Harry Potter' soundtrack and 'The Simpsons'.
Speaking of the event, Miles Davis said 'Tam O'Shanter was the best. I really enjoyed the story telling movie that came with it.' Yamin Faruki felt 'the best piece was definitely Harry Potter. It was fascinating how all the musicians followed the conductor and kept playing without losing time.' Erona Namani was 'amazed at watching the all the instruments being played and hearing their different sounds'.
