Sir Tom Finney

It was with great sadness that Moor Park received the news of the passing of Sir Tom Finney.

Sir Tom was the greatest player to ever play for Preston North End and one of the all-time greats for England. He made his debut for North End in 1946 and remained with the club until his retirement in 1960. He scored 210 goals in 473 appearances for Preston while his record for England was equally eye-catching, netting 30 times in 76 appearances.

Moor Park pupils and staff are proud and very fortunate as Sir Tom generously gave his time to support the school and the community. This picture captures one such occasion when he was invited to join our pupils in the opening of the new sports pavilion in Moor Park and enjoy a 'kick-about' with our young football team.

As a mark of our respect for Sir Tom Finney we are holding a commemorative assembly for the whole-school on Wednesday 26 February and members of our pupil school council will form a line along Sir Tom Finney Way as his funeral cortege passes Moor Park High School on Thursday 27 February at approximately 12.15pm.

Whilst this is a very sad occasion, it is important that the education of our pupils continues and therefore we expect all pupils to attend school as normal.

The City Council have made arrangements for a book of condolence for members of the public to sign and many people have paid their respects by leaving cards, messages and flowers nearby the famous statue of Sir Tom Finney in front of Preston North End.

Sir Tom Finney will be sadly missed and the thoughts of all in our school community are with his family and friends at this sad time.
