Twelve schools are selected to participate in this project each year. The University of London, Institute of Education (UCLIOE) and the Confucius Institute (CI) organise the project with Hanban (Chinese International Council). The aim is to establish international partnerships between schools.
We have been linked with Zhenjiang No.4 Middle School. The school has approximately 700 students from the age of 13 to 16 (similar to our Yr 9, 10 & 11). It is located in the city of Zhenjiang which is approximately 1200 miles south of Beijing. This is a small city of 2 to 3 million people situated in the province of Jiangsu which is one of the wealthy areas of China. However, the school serves a relatively poor neighbourhood and a very mixed ability range not unlike our position.
Mr Cunningham, Headteacher was privileged to be hosted by the school and was introduced to the Principal Sun Jiemei. Mr Cunningham presented a trophy we had commissioned for the school to use as a prize award and received a silk scroll with both our schools to display.
The pictures above capture the moments we exchanged gifts and signed an understanding to promote cultural links, exchanges and other activities to enhance young people’s mutual understanding, trust and help them grow into global citizens.
Further information about this exciting development will be circulated in the near future.
