Friends of Israel

John Levy from the Friends of Israel Charity came to speak to the Sixth Formers about the importance of the Middle East to Lancashire. He brought with him Rabbi Dr Robert Ash. The pair discussed four factors of how the Middle East affects Lancashire: 1. Energy Source – UK is reliant on the Middle East for its oil and natural gas. 1/3 of the UK’s energy comes from Qatar. 2. Religion – The Middle East contains people from the world’s 3 main religions Muslims, Christians and Jews 3. Research for Students – Israel is a country renowned for research in medicine and medical procedures. 4. War – The guests and the students had a frank discussion about the conflict in the Middle East, talking about different political regimes and the violence in some areas. In particular, the rise of Islamic State. Students were invited to express their views and challenge the views of the guests. This was an interesting presentation and certainly touched on some very emotive and current issues. Food for thought for Moor Park Sixth Formers!
